350 acre ‘Pierce Fire’ in Thermal now 100% contained
A brush fire in Thermal that reached 350 acres is now at 100% containment, according to Cal Fire. Officials are calling the blaze the Pierce Fire. It started at Avenue 66 and Pierce Street at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Hwy 86 which had been closed in both directions was re-opened to traffic Sunday morning.
Officials said the fire took down power lines and destroyed one outbuilding.
Over 200 homes and businesses were threatened by the Pierce Fire. No one was injured.
A total of 122 firefighters responded to the fire that was first reported at 4:37 p.m. Saturday.
