Wind Advisory issued for the Coachella Valley, mountain areas, and the high desert

An area of low pressure moving through the Great Basin today will create gusty onshore winds through tomorrow morning.

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday for the low deserts, as well as the Riverside and San Bernardino County mountains.

A separate Wind Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for the high desert areas including Yucca and Morongo Valley, Joshua Tree, and Twentynine Palms.

ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 10 PM
PDT THIS EVENING.

* WINDS…AREAS OF WEST WINDS 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH.

* LOCATION…NEAR MOUNTAIN RIDGE TOPS…ALONG DESERT MOUNTAIN
SLOPES…INTO ADJACENT DESERT AREAS…ESPECIALLY ALONG AND NORTH
AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 10 IN THE NORTHERN COACHELLA VALLEY.

* TIMING…STRENGTHENING DURING THE AFTERNOON…THEN DIMINISHING
DURING THE LATE EVENING.

* VISIBILITY…IN THE DESERTS REDUCED IN AREAS OF BLOWING SAND AND
BLOWING DUST.

* IMPACTS…THE WINDS WILL MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT…ESPECIALLY FOR
MOTORISTS WITH HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. WATCH FOR BROKEN TREE
LIMBS AND OTHER DEBRIS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT WINDS OF 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS
THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT…ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH

WINDS 25 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH IN THE WESTERN MOJAVE
DESERT OF SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY AND MUCH OF MOHAVE COUNTY.

* TIMING: A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO ESMERALDA AND CENTRAL NYE
COUNTIES LATE THIS MORNING MORNING THEN SLIDE SOUTH THROUGH THE
AREA THIS AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL INCREASE BY LATE MORNING WITH
STRONG WINDS CONTINUING THROUGH EARLY EVENING.

* LOCATIONS: ESMERALDA…CENTRAL NYE…LINCOLN…WESTERN AND SOUTH
WESTERN SAN BERNARDINO AND MOHAVE COUNTIES.

* IMPACTS: STRONG CROSSWINDS WILL MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT
ESPECIALLY FOR MOTORCYCLES AND HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. IN
ADDITION…STRONG WINDS OVER DESERT AREAS CAN RESULT IN
BRIEFLY LOWERED VISIBILITIES TO WELL UNDER A MILE AT TIMES
IN BLOWING DUST OR BLOWING SAND. USE EXTRA CAUTION.
