Patrick Evans honored with Golden Palm Star
The Palm Springs Walk of Stars will honor CBS Local 2’s Chief Meteorologist Patrick Evans with the 366th Golden Palm Star during a star dedication ceremony on Friday, April 4, at 4 p.m.
The star dedication ceremony will take place at 114 North Palm Canyon Drive. The public is encouraged to attend the event.
Patrick Evans originally hails from Charlottesville, Virginia, where he started working his first television job at 17. He began as floor director and camera operator for the evening newscast at WVIR-TV, a job that would continue through high school and during his years as a student at the University of Virginia.
While at University of Virginia, Patrick studied Environmental Sciences, Communications and Political Science. In addition to his studies, he became the weekend weatherman at WVIR, and following graduation from UVA, Patrick was promoted to a full-time weather position at the station.
In late 1990’s, Patrick moved from WVIR to CBS affiliate WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Virginia. He wore many hats at that station, from weather to features to a high school quiz show. He had the opportunity to cover events all over the country, including the 2000 NCAA National Championship football game and numerous other Bowl games . Patrick also traveled internationally, covering Dr. Robert Ballard’s “Jason Project” on a trek to Peru, broadcasting live from the jungles along the Amazon River.
In 2000, Patrick fulfilled a lifelong desire to move west, arriving in Orange County, California, where he served as Chief Meteorologist at the Orange County News channel for two years.
In August 2002, Patrick moved to the Palm Springs area to take a position with new Coachella Valley CBS affiliate, KPSP. After a brief stint as an anchor and reporter, Patrick returned to his first love, the weather.
Since then, he’s been the Chief Meteorologist for CBS Local 2. Also during his twelve-year long tenure, Patrick has hosted the Valley’s only live Arts and Entertainment program, “Eye on the Desert”.
In 2012, Gulf-California Broadcast Company acquired CBS Local 2 and created a new family with News Channel 3.
Despite many changes, the team of Patrick Evans, Kris Long, and Brooke Beare stayed together.
You can see Patrick at 5:30 PM, 6:30 PM and 11:00 PM on CBS Local 2, at 6:45 PM hosting “Eye on the Desert” and also taking care of the weather duties on KDFX Fox 11 at 10:00 PM.
Outside of work, Patrick is an avid but struggling golfer, loves to travel, and enjoys the company of his three dachshunds, Sophie, Guinness and Ryan.
A strong believer in community service, Patrick serves on the Board of the Family YMCA of the Desert and the Desert Symphony, and previously served on the boards of the California Desert Chorale and the United Way of the Desert.
Much of his public service involves emceeing a large number of events throughout the year here in the Coachella Valley.
Music is a big influence in his life, particularly the music of Frank Sinatra. For that reason, Patrick also dedicates time to the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center whenever they call upon him.
He even enjoys singing a little Sinatra, and can be spotted at various spots around the Valley, crooning a few tunes with local musicians (they are very tolerant friends!).
