2 motorcycles crash head-on in Joshua Tree

A woman motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with another motorcycle driven by a man who was critically injured in the crash.

The crash happened Sunday afternoon in Joshua Tree National Park about 1.7 miles south of the west gate, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials with CHP said the two motorcyclists were driving on Park Boulevard around 1:50 p.m. when the man crossed over the double yellow lines, striking the woman’s motorcycle head-on.

The woman was killed at the scene and the man was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

It’s unknown why the man traveled into the opposite lane; CHP is investigating the cause.

Neither of the motorcyclists names have been released.
