New parking lot gears up for festival goers

You’ve probably seen the billboard from eastbound Interstate 10 in Indio that advertises off-site parking for the Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival and Stagecoach. The lot is on Avenue 48 and Van Buren in Coachella.

Changes were made to the billboard to encourage drivers to exit off of Dillon Road instead of Monroe or Jefferson and create more traffic in Indio.

“We’re just offering a parking alternative for anyone who wants to pay extra for parking that is convenient,” David Dix, chief marketing officer for LNR Parking.

He’s now got the green light from concert promoter, Goldenvoice, and permits from the city of Coachella to move forward.

You can reserve a parking spot for $270. RV’s can stay overnight for $2,200 and festival shuttles will be available throughout each weekend.

“Vans will take you to and from the music festival every 15 minutes. You can leave and come back when you want to,” said Dix.

Dix said more than a dozen lights will be set up, the lot will be fenced off and security will be on hand 24/7.

This week, contractors will compact the lot dirt with hopes it’ll limit dust for the next five years and make the land a long-term home for festival goers to park.
