Over $81K in meth, heroin found in SUV’s fuel tank

A man was arrested by Border Patrol agents on Tuesday evening after they found nearly 10 lbs. of methamphetamine and heroin in his SUV.

Agents stopped a 20 year-old man driving a Ford Explorer near I-10 and Hayfield Road around 7 p.m. When a K9 detected something, the vehicle was taken to the Indio Station for inspection.

Authorities found five vacuum-sealed packages of meth and heroin hidden within the fuel tank of the Explorer. They said the narcotics weighed 9.69 lbs.

The suspect is a Mexican national and he’s in the custody of the DEA, according to authorities.

The drugs and the SUV were also turned over to the DEA.
