Nurse in critical condition after stabbing in California hospital

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s authorities say a nurse has been stabbed by a hospital visitor on the same day a nurse was stabbed and critically injured in a separate attack at another hospital.

Sheriff’s Deputy Kim Manatt says the two attacks are not related.

Manatt says a man walked into Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Sunday morning, grabbed a nurse from behind and stabbed her in the ear with a sharp object. The nurse managed to free herself and ran away. A pencil, believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing, was recovered at the scene.

The attack came hours after a man bypassed security at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar and stabbed a nurse with a knife. The nurse was critically injured, and the suspect was taken into custody.
