Earth Day to be celebrated in Coachella Valley

UC Riverside’s Palm Desert campus will mark Earth Day tonight with a screening of the Pixar animated film “WALL-E.”

The 6 p.m. free screening will also conclude UCR’s “Living Green” lecture series, which started earlier this year.

“WALL-E,” which won the Academy Award for best animated feature in 2008, has been seen as a commentary about humans’ interaction with the environment.

The film is set in 2700, when Earth is no longer inhabitable by people, and follows robot WALL-E, who gathers trash and collects odds and ends.
