City of Palm Springs phasing out plastic bags

The city of Palm Springs is setting dates to phase out plastic bags at retailers.

The city first wants businesses to use their current inventory and phase in reusable bags.

Enforcement dates for large stores begin November. 3

Small stores such as convenience and liquor stores would see the new restrictions May 3 of 2015.

The city is also offering grants for businesses to help them with the transition.

The money would be used to help them make the switch to more sustainable bags.
