Man charged with robbing Palm Desert bank

A La Quinta man has been arrested after police charged him with robbing a 1st Bank in Palm Desert over the weekend at 73000 Highway 111.

Authorities caught up to 28-year-old Joshua Franklin Wehe five days after the robbery occurred.

According to police, the suspect handed one of the bank tellers a note demanding money just before noon on Saturday, April 19. He then escaped in a vehicle with an unknown amount of cash.

Authorities said he didn’t have a weapon and nobody was hurt during the incident. Officers conducted a search in the area but were unable to initially locate the suspect.

Officers took Wehe into custody on Thursday, April 24. He was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on one count of bank robbery. His bail has been set at $30,000.

The sheriff’s department hasn’t released his mug shot.
