Teachers in C.V.U.S.D. get pay increase

Teachers with the Coachella Valley Teacher’s Association are getting a raise.

The Coachella Valley Unified School District approved a five percent pay increase on Friday. The raise will be retroactive to May 1.

School board members said they believe the best way to improve education and retain employees is to ensure that they can maintain a healthy and reasonable standard of living.

The increase is comparable or better than what many school districts in Riverside County are offering, according to board members.

The salary increase follows the school board voting to layoff at lease 20 teachers due to budget constraints.
