Indio crash forces closure of westbound Hwy. 111

A crash in Indio shut down westbound lanes of Highway 111 near Youngs Lane Monday afternoon.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 were at the scene of the crash at about 3:30 p.m.

The driver of a white Mustang who was going eastbound ended up going the wrong direction and hit a truck head-on. The passenger in the Mustang received moderate injuries and Cal Fire crews had to cut the person from the car.

The person driving the truck received minor injuries in the crash and the driver of the Mustang is fine.

Authorities said the two people hurt in the crash were taken to the hospital.

Westbound lanes of Highway 111 were expected to be shut down from Shields Road to Madison Street for about an hour while officers cleared the accident from the roadway.

There’s no word what caused the driver of the Mustang to travel in the wrong direction. The crash is under investigation.
