Inmates killed at California prison are identified

San Bernardino County authorities have identified two inmates killed at a federal prison in Southern California over the weekend.

Sheriff’s Lt. Brad Toms identified the men Tuesday as 24-year-old Brian Kountz and 49-year-old Robert Howard Ferguson. Both men were pronounced dead at U.S. Penitentiary Victorville Saturday night.

The San Bernardino Sun (http://bit.ly/1qvgg8U ) cites records showing that Kountz was from Casper, Wyoming, and Ferguson from Las Vegas.

No other information was immediately available regarding the slayings of the two men, who authorities suspect were the victims of foul play.

The newspaper says at least five men, including Ferguson and Kountz, have died at the prison within the last nine months.

The prison is one of four facilities at a federal correctional complex in Victorville, about 90 miles northwest of Palm Springs.
