Border Patrol reschedules flights to California

The Border Patrol is rescheduling flights to bring Central American migrants from south Texas to California for processing.

Customs and Border Protection announced Friday that the agency plans to transport adults and children from the Rio Grande Valley to Laredo and El Paso in Texas, and San Diego and El Centro in Southern California.

Friday’s announcement comes less than a week after the agency canceled the California flights. Officials released no further details.

The government has been struggling to cope with a surge of Central Americans entering south Texas’ Rio Grande Valley. The Border Patrol has made more than 174,000 arrests there since Oct. 1.

Once the migrants are processed, Immigration and Customs Enforcement decides who can be released while awaiting deportation proceedings.
