Kids become ace players at summer tennis camp
Coach Caerwyn Evans wants his campers to not just want to win, but to love the game.
“I’ve been playing with Caerwyn for five years now,” camper Haley Diefenbach said.
Talk to any of his students, and you soon tell they sure do. This is the Junior Desert Tennis Academy at Shadow Mountain Resort and Club in Palm Desert.
“We get a lot of people from out of town in the summer in a typical camp you have 20 -30 kids. Half are locals and we get some out of towners as well,” Evans said.
From all over and all ages. The camp is open to players four to 18.
“If you don’t start young enough you lose that muscle memory but if you start at 5, 6, or 7 you have a good chance at being a really good player in teens. There are plenty of players who are on tour and didn’t start until 10 and 12 though,” he said.
At this summer camp, Coach Caerwyn is very age specific. Depending on the age, you use a different ball.
“Tennis has actually been the last sport to change their balls for little kids, it’s the last sport literally in the world which is crazy . Its making a huge improvement,” Evans said. “Tennis is an individual sport you learn a lot about yourself pushing yourself, you learn mental physical boundaries.”
Coach also teaches you how to be the ace player of any match.
