CHP beefing up forces for the 4th of July weekend

California Highway Patrol officers will be out in force this Fourth of July weekend, beginning today, on the lookout for people driving while impaired.

“Our goal is to use education and enforcement to get the message out: to be responsible this weekend,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “We want everyone to have a great Independence Day weekend, but we also want you to do it safely and responsibly.”

The “maximum enforcement period” will begin at 6 p.m. and continue through 11:59 p.m. Sunday. During that time, all available officers around the state will be deployed to patrol the roadways.
