Valley toddler struggling after softball accident

The family of a valley toddler who was accidentally hit by a softball at Big League Dreams sports park on Sunday is reaching out to the community for help.

Aliyah Bravo, 2, was in one of the dugouts watching her dad play softball when an errant throw to the third baseman struck her in the chest.

Bravo’s family members tell CBS Local 2/KESQ that the Indio girl’s heart stopped beating. She was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, then transferred to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Bravo is not breathing on her own, according to family members.

“So far all we can do is pray and have faith that she has a full, speedy recovery,” said her aunt, Tabitha Bravo.

The family’s goal is to raise $15,000 toward medical expenses.

In a statement, Big League Dreams Sports Park in Cathedral City said “We express our sympathies to the family and wish the child a full and speedy recovery.”

Bravo’s family has set up a GoFundMe account for anyone interested in helping “her and her family get through this financial hardship:” http://www.gofundme.com/d98288

Friends are also putting on a softball tournament September 21 and 22 at Davis Field in Indio to help with expenses. For details, contact Kristen at (760) 391-0942 or Michael at (760) 289-4812.
