Three in custody after overnight police activity in Desert Hot Springs
Three people were in custody, another still wanted Thursday, after police surrounded an apartment building in Desert Hot Springs during an night-long stand off at Mountain View and Hacienda.
Authorities were packing up and leaving the area at sunrise.
The standoff began at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
Police told News Channel 3/CBS Local 2 they were looking for four suspects in connection with an armed robbery they had received word about at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday on the 68000 block of Calle Las Tiendas.
Officers say they contacted the apparent victim who said he got robbed by four people after visiting an apartment in the same complex.
Police say they called the suspects out of the apartment, located near the Super One Liquor store.
Two men and a woman came out and were taken into custody.
But it was believed one man may have remained inside the building.
A team of Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies entered the apartment, but did not find anyone inside.
The suspects included Andrew Leroy Dezern, 20, of Palm Springs, Terrin Renee Cho, 23, of Desert Hot Springs and a 17-year-old teenager from Palm Springs.
They were all charged with armed robbery and assault.
The intense police activity included a helicopter circling overhead and police talking to people inside the apartment complex over a megaphone.
A witness also reported seeing number of police cars, a swat team and a military style armored personnel carrier at the scene.
There were no reports of injuries.
Police say this investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
