Rescue crews called after woman gets stuck in car wash

Cal Fire responded to a medical emergency at Desert Express Car Wash in La Quinta after a woman became stuck in the car wash Thursday morning.

The car wash is located on Washington Street, north of Fred Waring Drive.

Emergency crews received the call at about 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Officials with Cal Fire said the woman’s leg got stuck in machinery and it took about 30 minutes to extricate her.

The woman was an employee of the car wash.

Cal Fire officials described the incident as a technical rescue. The woman was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

According to our crew on scene, the car wash didn’t sustain any damage during the incident, but it will be closed until later Thursday afternoon because officials with Cal/OSHA have to conduct a safety inspection before operations can resume.
