Man suspected of robbing Cathedral City bank arrested in AZ

A transient who allegedly robbed a bank inside a Cathedral City supermarket last week was in custody Thursday in Arizona.

Police in Mesa, Arizona, responded to a “suspicious person” report at an apartment complex and arrested 36-year-old Damon Leandre Ingram on suspicion of trespassing.

Police then discovered Ingram was wanted for an Aug. 27 robbery at the Chase branch inside Stater Bros. in the 67800 block of Vista Chino, according to Cathedral City police.

The bandit — who witnesses identified as Ingram — used a note and claimed he had a gun to get cash from a teller, Cathedral City police said.

Ingram is expected to be charged in Arizona, where he will likely be arraigned prior to being returned to California. He is jailed in Arizona in lieu of $1 million bail, and police said he could also face federal charges.
