Flooding destroys a woman’s home

Jacklyn Underwood spent the last 15 years years renovating her home on Highland Palms off Washington in La Quinta. She finally put the finishing touches on it, Sunday, her birthday.

“I’ve been working on it, finally got it done. The landscaping and everything,” Underwood said.

One day later, when the valley got hit with massive flooding, “It sounded like ice chunks hitting the house . My swimming pool was filled up with the mountain,” she said.

Her home got hit even worse, though.

“My retaining wall fell in, the mountain came down filled up the swimming pool. I had water and mud rushing in every port in the house,” she said.

Neighbors came by to help – neighbors from down the block, who diodn’t even know Underwood.

“We walked in, she was here by herself. Standing water everywhere. We went home, got shovels and dry vacuum and did what we could,” neighbor Autumn Brewer said.

“They’re my angels,” Underwood said through tears. “I don’t have flood insurance and All State said they cant help me so I don’t know what I’m gong to do yet. One step at a time.”

Now, all Underwood can do is look at the mess and get to work.

“I’ll start all over again,” she said.
