Varner Road could take weeks to open

People who passed barricades quickly learned how fast the soft mud on Edom Hill can submerge a car — or dump truck.

A Burrtec trash truck, a pool-maintenance truck, and about 5 other cars were window-deep in mud.

Cathedral City Public Works says the clean up can only be determined once they survey the damage to the road.

Varner Road from Gene Autry Trail east to Edom Hill Road should be opened by the close of business Wednesday.
Varner Road from Edom Hill Road east to Date Palm Drive is anticipated to open sometime next week as it has the deepest levels of mud debris to be removed, and until moved, we do not know the condition of the road underneath mud/sand/silt.
Varner Road from Date Palm Drive east to Bob Hope Drive should be opened by the close of business Wednesday.
