Police dog ends standoff in Cathedral City
A standoff that lasted about two hours came to an end in Cathedral City shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.
According to police, officers were conducting a probation compliance check on 26-year-old Ryan Michael England, of Cathedral City, when he barricaded himself in a home in the 68100 block of Tortuga Road around 8:30 a.m.
Officers tried to contact England via telephone and with a bullhorn, but he wouldn’t respond. Police were able to contact his family members and they provided a key to the home.
After opening the door, officers called for England to surrender. Police on scene told KESQ and CBS Local 2 that the task force sent a police dog into the home and the K9 was able to force England out.
England began talking to officers at the front door and was taken into custody. Authorities said he’s currently on probation for narcotics violations and burglary.
He was taken to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning for violating terms of his probation and obstructing officers in the course of duty.
Nobody was hurt during the incident and police said they didn’t have to shut down the road or evacuate nearby homes.
