Cathedral City Mayor Kathy DeRosa has confirmed the information with KESQ and CBS Local 2.

Vasquez, 59, pleaded guilty to felony charges for embezzling funds from an employee loan program on Monday. He pleaded guilty to three felony counts of embezzlement by a public officer, along with two freshly-filed misdemeanor counts of grand theft and filing false documents.

As part of the plea deal he had to resign by September 22 — and subsequently either resign or turn down the position if he is reelected Nov. 4.

He’s expected to be sentenced November 14.
