Man arrested after elderly couple robbed at knife-point

Authorities have caught up with a man accused of stealing an elderly couple’s car in Palm Springs after threatening them with a knife on August 26.

Daniel Ryan Volrich, a 24 year old transient, was arrested in Yucca Valley on Wednesday, September 17 in connection to the robbery.

The crime occurred at a home in the 2200 block of Sunshine Way in Palm Springs. The victims, who are both about 80 years old, left their garage door open while they were inside, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Volrich is accused of entering their home through the garage and holding a knife to the couple, demanding money and the keys to their car. Officers said he stole property from the home and took off in the couple’s green 2003 Acura TL.

The stolen car was discovered in Bridgeport, California on August 29, three days after the incident.

The investigation led detectives to Volrich, who faces felony charges of home invasion robbery, carjacking, use of a weapon during the carjacking, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and elder abuse.
