Wanted fugitive arrested for attempted murder
Police have arrested a man they were searching for in connection to a road rage shooting in Palm Springs on May 31.
According to Sergeant Harvey Reed with the Palm Springs Police Department, Gabriel Gutierrez was taken into custody Friday, September 19, after officers received information that he was recently seen in Cathedral City.
He was arrested at a home in the 5100 block of East Ramon Road on Friday just before 8 a.m. Sergeant Reed said Gutierrez was in possession of a loaded gun at the time of his arrest.
A $1,000,000 arrest warrant was issued for Gutierrez on July 12 for several felony violations, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and participating in a criminal street gang.
The road rage shooting on May 31 took place at the intersection of Crossley Road and East Ramon Road at about 9:15 p.m. Palm Springs police determined a crash resulted from a car-to-car shooting stemming from a road range incident.
A pregnant woman in the victim’s vehicle was shot in the face. Fortunately, she was treated and released from the hospital that same night.
Gutierrez was taken to the Riverside County Jail in Indio where he’s being held on $1,000,000 bail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on eleven felony violations on Tuesday, September 23.
