Woman killed crossing Twentynine Palms Highway

A 19-year-old woman died Thursday night after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing Twentynine Palms Highway.

Agnes Quintano, a Twentynine Palms resident, was crossing the highway southbound near Mission Avenue at about 6:50 p.m. when the collision occurred. Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said she was in the #1 westbound lane when she was hit by a Toyota Tacoma driven by 24-year-old Amy Perkins of Joshua Tree.

The sheriff’s department said Quintano was crossing the highway in the middle of the block. She was taken to High Desert Medical Center with major injuries but died at the hospital just before 8 p.m.

Perkins wasn’t injured in the collision.

Deputies said it appears that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. The incident is under investigation and any witnesses are asked to call Deputy Greer with the Morongo Basin Station at (760) 366-4175.
