Fire sparks in mountains above Palm Springs

A small fire sparked near the Indian Canyons above Bogart Trail early Sunday morning, according to the Palm Springs Fire Department.

The fire burned at least ten acres, firefighters say.

As of Sunday night, the fire was 75% contained and crews expected to put it out completely overnight.

Many could see the flames and smoke from the Valley floor.

Air support and crews from Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service dropped water and retardant on the mountain.

Spectators could see the equipment up close as heli-tankers pulled water from the Indian Canyon Golf Course.

Palm Springs Fire Department officials say the fire spread slowly, and was not a threat to any people or buildings.
