Investigation underway after shots fired at Indio police
Update: One arrested in connection to shooting at officers
Update 4:30 p.m. Indio Police say that they did not locate the two suspects who they believe shot at officers early this morning. They say 2 men are still outstanding and are to be considered armed and dangerous. Those men are described as Hispanic Males, approximately 18 years old, 5’8″- 5’10” tall, weighing 160-170 pounds, one wearing dark shorts, the other in dark pants. Anyone with any information is requested to call the Indio Police Department or Crimestoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
Update: 3:30 p.m. Indio Police say a total of 7 people were detained at one point during the investigation, 3 of those people were arrested for having outstanding warrants, but not for shooting at police. Indio police also say they did not locate any guns in the home. The investigation continues.
An investigation is underway in Indio after someone allegedly shot at police officers early Friday morning.
According to Sgt. Dan Marshall with the Indio Police Department, officers were conducting a property check at about 3 a.m. when they said a man opened fire in their direction.
The officers saw the suspect run into a home on Primrose Avenue and Bamboo Street, which is located east of Monroe Street.
The Desert Regional SWAT team was called and officers obtained a search warrant at about 5 a.m. The Cathedral City Police Department, Palm Springs Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were also brought in to assist.
The SWAT team entered the home early Friday morning but Marshall said nobody has been arrested yet.
Witnesses on scene told our stations they saw three people handcuffed and placed into cars, but that information hasn’t been substantiated at this time.
We received many calls into our newsroom Friday morning from concerned neighbors; some said they had trouble getting their children to school because of the heavy police activity.
Monroe Street was closed between Las Palmas Road and Dr. Carreon Boulevard for several hours. It was reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
The police activity on Primrose Avenue began to clear around 12:30 p.m.
