Indio family files damage complaint against city after police raid

Juan Jose Flores said police raided his home on Aster Road in Indio last Friday, looking for two men who reportedly fired shots at officers and anything gang-related.

Flores said police shattered his windows and ripped through every room. They came came up empty-handed and left behind $5,000 in damage.

“Nobody was at the house when they did the raid. It’s just very uncomfortable when you come back and you see your house destroyed,” said Flores.

We went with the Flores family as it filed a damage claim with the city. The family hopes the city can cover the costs for repairs at the home where there’s still glass spilled out on the driveway, holes in the windows, smashed doors and window blinds.

“I hope they can pay me for damages. It was a wrongful thing to do,” said Flores.

Flores said he’s grateful neighbors stepped in immediately to help board up the windows and clean up the mess.

“I really have to thank all of my neighbors for what they did,” he said.

The city said it will send the complaint to its insurance company that will take care of it from there. Flores should be contacted in a week.

“We have a good city. We have a good police force. I’m not blaming anyone. All I want is for them to fix my house,” said Flores.

Police later arrested Raymond Delafuente for allegedly shooting at Indio police officers, but the District Attorney’s Office said the case has been sent back to Indio police for further investigation.
