Woman hit by 2 vehicles in Cathedral City

A woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver and then hit by a second vehicle while lying injured in the roadway Tuesday night in Cathedral City.

The woman, who hasn’t been identified yet, was walking at the intersection of Date Palm Drive and Olancha Road, north of Dinah Shore Drive, just after 7 p.m. when she was hit by the first vehicle, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.

The preliminary investigation suggested the woman was near the west shoulder of Date Palm Drive when she was hit by southbound traffic. Officers are still trying to find out why she was in the roadway at the time of the collision.

A second vehicle hit her soon after while she was injured in the road but the driver stopped and waited for police to arrive, according to a witness at the scene.

Police said the pedestrian sustained multiple fractures to the arms and legs and major trauma to her face. She was listed in critical condition at Desert Regional Medical Center at 11 p.m. Tuesday.

There’s currently no description of the hit-and-run vehicle because nobody saw that collision, it was only heard by witnesses, according to police.

The Cathedral City Police Department continues to investigate and asks anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call officers at (760) 770-0303.
