Cal State trustees to talk budget, sexual assaults

The governing board that oversees the California State University system is tackling some weighty subjects during a two-day meeting this week, including the system’s budget for next year and its approach to preventing campus sexual assaults.

The Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet today and tomorrow at system headquarters in Long Beach. Today’s agenda includes discussions on recent initiatives to make it easier for community college students to transfer to Cal State campuses and to increase the graduation rate for all students.

Tomorrow’s meeting, the board will be asked to approve the system’s 2015-16 budget request. Briefing documents show the system is seeking an increase of $217 million, $97 million more than the governor’s office has said it can expect.

Trustees also are scheduled to receive an update on Cal State’s efforts to address sexual violence.
