Ten years behind bars for man who sexually assaulted a woman while posing as police officer

A Los Angeles County man accused of sexually assaulting a woman while impersonating an officer has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison.

The District Attorney’s Office said Thursday that 29-year-old Wesley Stepp pleaded no contest to home invasion robbery and sexual battery by restraint. He was sentenced immediately after entering the pleas.

His co-defendant in the case, 42-year-old Eric Leonard Thorpe, pleaded no contest to first-degree burglary and was sentenced to two years.

Prosecutors say Stepp met the victim last year in an El Segundo hotel room. He pushed her to the ground, handcuffed her and told her he was a police officer, while Thorpe claimed to be his “partner officer.”

Stepp then demanded money to not arrest her. Prosecutors say when the victim said she did not have any money, he sexually assaulted her.
