Louis Vuitton to premiere Cruise collection at Bob Hope estate

Louis Vuitton announced Monday that the company is leaving Paris for Palm Springs to present its second Cruise collection at the iconic Bob Hope and Dolores Hope estate.

The show takes place on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:15 p.m.

More than 3,000 hotel rooms have been booked throughout Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley for those coming in from around the world to attend the exclusive fashion show, including models, A-List celebrities and members of the international media, according to a release from Palm Springs Communications Director Amy Blaisdell.

“The Bob and Dolores Hope estate in Palm Springs, designed by modernist architect John Lautner in 1973, is a symbolic landmark that has inspired me ever since I first saw it. I am delighted to present my Cruise 16 collection in this remarkable setting,” said Nicolas Ghesquiere, director of women’s collections for Louis Vuitton.

This is the first time a fashion show will be hosted at the futuristic estate, which is located on top of Southridge overlooking the Coachella Valley. City officials said it’s considered one of the largest private estates in Palm Springs and the home was built to resemble a volcano, with three visor-like arches and an undulating concrete roof, with a hole in the center opening a courtyard to the sky.

“It’s fantastic business for our city in May and a real testament to the fact that Palm Springs is ultra-cool again thanks to a wonderful array of modernist architecture and a close association with the Hollywood celebrities who live an play here,” said Mary Jo Ginther, director of the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. Ginther also said Louis Vuitton is also planning several fashion magazine photo shoots for their Resort collection at more than a dozen hotels throughout Palm Springs.

Mayor Steve Pougnet said, “We are beyond thrilled that multi-million dollar brands like Louis Vuitton are taking notice of our fabulous resort destination and all that we have to offer.”
