Motorcyclist killed on Gene Autry Trail identified

The Riverside County Coroner’s office has released the identity of the man killed in a motorcycle crash on Gene Autry Trail on Memorial Day as 21-year old Marcus Leone of Palm Springs.

Police say the crash happened at 11:10 a.m. at Gene Autry Trail and District Center Drive near the Palm Springs Air Museum.

The preliminary investigation indicates Leone was traveling southbound on Gene Autry Trail at a high rate of speed and lost control.

Leone then struck a curb before striking a few fixed objects adjacent to the roadway. He was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

The accident scene and debris field extended into the northbound lanes of the roadway.

Gene Autry Trail was closed in both directions until 5:30 p.m. for the crash investigation. Anybody with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Palm Springs Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit at 760-323-8125.
