Pipe-beating suspect caught hiding in pool

A Palm Springs man was arrested Thursday night for attempted homicide after a witness apparently saw him beating a man with a metal pipe.

According to Sergeant Frank Guarino with the Palm Springs Police Department, 38-year-old Travis Corn was arrested shortly after 6:30 p.m. while trying to hide from officers in a swimming pool.

Guarino said the alleged beating happened in the area of East Palm Canyon Drive and Broadmoor Drive. While officers were responding to the call, the witness followed Corn as he ran into a nearby condominium complex.

Corn jumped into a pool at the complex and the witness helped police find him. The investigation revealed Corn struck the man with a metal pipe several times.

Officers said the victim and Corn know each other. The victim was treated at the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Corn was arrested for attempted homicide and was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department at (760) 323-8115 or Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867.
