PSPD interviews woman who abandoned deceased fetus

Palm Springs police have interviewed the woman who abandoned a deceased fetus at Desert Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, June 3. Detectives began investigating the incident after hospital staff made the grim discovery around 8 a.m. that morning.

Over the course of the investigation, the Palm Springs Police Department identified and interviewed the woman involved in the incident.

According to a release from Lieutenant Mike Kovaleff, at this time the incident appears to have been caused by a medical issue and there are no criminal implications. PSPD can’t provide any further information at this time due to the sensitive privacy issues associated with this type of incident.

Seek Help During Crisis Pregnancies

Officers said the deceased fetus was left in a public area of the hospital. The time of death, manner of death and age of the fetus have yet to be determined.

The case will remain open until the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office and the Riverside County Coroner’s Office completes the investigation.
