Timothy Bradley announces winner of ringside seats
In a raffle drawing, boxing fan David Onken won two ringside seats to Timothy Bradley’s fight against Jesse Vargas June 27. The Desert Storm himself pulled the winning name at La Quinta High School Thursday.
Bradley, the former WBO welterweight champion, donated the seats as part of an online raffle fundraiser. All proceeds benefit La Quinta High School’s IB or International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, which engages students in high level course work.
“Unfortunately that program is very expensive so the money we’re raising today will go to scholarships for students for their IB exams,” said principal Rebecca Cook. “It’s very exciting for us to have a parent like Mr. Bradley who really supports not just our athletic programs, but our academic programs here.”
Bradley’s stepson Robert is a student at LQHS. He’s also part of the IB program and proud of his dad’s fight and contribution to the raffle fundraiser.
“It’s great. It brings a lot of money to a great school,” said Robert.
The fundraiser also supports the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Cathedral City, funding cancer research and providing services to cancer patients.
“Thank you for contributing to the IB Program and Relay for Life. I really appreciate you,” Bradley said to Onken and participants of the fundraiser. “Giving back is very important just to show the kids it’s not all about me. It’s about the community. It’s about making the world a better place,” said Bradley.
Bradley heads to the ring at the StubHub Center in Carson on June 27 and Onken and a guest will be there.
“Enjoy yourself at the fight. It’s going to be a great night of boxing, you’re going to witness me bring back the fifth world championship to the Coachella Valley,” said Bradley.
