Local HS players earned All CIF-SS baseball and softball team honors
The CIF Southern Section released their all-team selections in spring sports and nine local high school standouts received the honor.
Palm Desert teammates Travis Moniot and Andrew Bash made the All CIF Southern Section baseball team in Division 3. Moniot led the team with a .448 batting average, accumulating 49 hits and three triples and was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 34th round of the MLB Draft. He opted to play in college at the University of Oregon.
Bash led the team in RBI and home runs, batting in 29 on the season and hitting two home runs on the year. The Aztecs made it to the Division 3 quarterfinals before losing to eventual Division 3 champion Redondo Union 6-3.
In Division 6, a couple of Desert Christian Academy standouts made the list. Junior Kenny Gagnon and senior Chris Palmer made the All CIF Southern Section baseball team in their respective division. Gagnon led the team in batting average (.479), hits (45), and steals (16), while Palmer led in RBI (24) and had a 0.89 ERA in 14 pitching appearances, eight starts.
On the girls side, the lone All CIF Southern Section softball team member in Division 4 was La Quinta catcher Kelli Finan.
In Division 6, four girls earned the honor. Rancho Mirage pitcher Kat Fogg, Shadow Hills infielder Megan Berrelleza, Yucca Valley infielder Alexis Cody, and Desert Christian Aacademy infielder Kaylee Espinoza all made the All CIF Southern Section softball team in their respective division.
