Smoke continues to drift toward valley and high desert

Firefighters are making progress against the Lake Fire burning in the San Bernardino Mountains.

At 6:00 p.m. Monday, the fire was 24 percent contained at 17,405 acres.

The fire is burning in the Barton Flats area near Angelus Oaks, South of Big Bear Lake.

Highway 38 remains closed between Angelus Oaks and Lake Williams.

A smoke advisory remains in place for part of the Coachella Valley as smoke from the Lake Fire drifts into the area and also in to the high desert.

Morongo Valley and Pioneertown are seeing a lot of smoke, but the communities are not threatened as of Monday night.

The eastern side of the fire is where most of the growth continues but the pace of that growth has slowed, giving firefighters an opportunity to make significant progress.

Nearly 2,000 personnel are assigned to the fire.
