Indio man arrested after fleeing police in stolen truck

A 21-year-old man from Indio was arrested Tuesday morning after leading police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen pickup truck.

Around 8:50 a.m., an officer with the Indio Police Department tried to stop Omar Rosas at 44th Avenue and Adobe Road as he was driving a stolen 2005 Toyota Tundra.

Rosas sped away and a watch commander with the police department decided to end the pursuit on Jackson Street due to safety concerns, according to the release.

Shortly before 9 a.m., authorities said Rosas crashed into a fence on Civic Center Mall, just west of Jackson Street. He ran from the scene but was arrested within minutes.

Rosas was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on charges of driving a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading and for violating his probation, officers said in the release.

Officers are looking for a Hispanic man who was a passenger in the truck at the time of the incident. He ran from the scene and is still on the run. Authorities didn’t release a description of the suspect.

The Indio Police Department is handling the investigation. Authorities are expected to release Rosas’ booking photo in the near future.

In fewer than 10 hours, two men were arrested in the Coachella Valley on suspicion of stealing pickup trucks. The other man reached speeds in excess of 100 MPH before being arrested in Desert Hot Springs.
