Deer rescued from irrigation canal in Blythe

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services was called to Blythe Tuesday morning after a deer became stuck in an irrigation canal.

Two animal control officers responded to the canal near South Rannells Boulevard and 28th Avenue at about 8:30 a.m.

Officials said Lt. Oliver White and Animal Control Officer Justin Mays only needed a few moments to get the doe out and set her free.

Last week, animal services rescued a 5-year-old German shepherd named Max from the Gage Canal in Riverside after the dog became trapped in the narrow canal. Officials said that canal has steep walls making it difficult for animals to climb.
