Alleged DUI driver takes out power in Palm Springs crash

An alleged drunk driver crashed into a power pole, hurting a passenger and knocking out power to people in Palm Springs Sunday, police said.

Around 2:15 a.m., Palm Springs Police says a car crashed into a power pole, coming to rest on its roof, at N. Indian Canyon and E. Vista Chino. Multiple lines fell on top of the car.

Sergeant Kelly Fieux said a passenger was trapped inside the car, and could not be taken out until the power was shut off to the power lines.

Both the driver and the passenger were taken to a nearby hospital.

Palm Springs Police says alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision.

6:00 a.m.: Some residential and commercial power was lost as a result of the downed power lines and Edison is currently completing repairs to restore power to the area.
