Dozens of customers still without power in Coachella

As of 10:00 p.m. Friday night, 68 customers are still without power in Coachella in the area of Harrison Street and Jennifer Way between Calle Zamora and Avenue 52.

More than 1,300 customers have had their power restored.

IID spokeswoman Marion Champion told CBS Local 2/KESQ Newschannel 3 the outage Friday started at 8:04 p.m. IID dispatched crews to the scene, but do not know when power will be restored to everyone.

Callers to the newsroom reported power going on and off throughout the evening.

Earlier in the day, Champion warned IID customers of the possibility of “rolling brownouts” if power usage was not scaled back. “Our system was at peak capacity yesterday and with hotter temperatures in the forecast today we are asking all of our electrical customers to conserve.”

Palm Springs recorded a high temperature of 117 degrees on Friday, which broke the record of 116 degrees, set in 1962.
