Power outages in Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City

Only 29 Southern California Edison customers are without power this morning.

According to SCE, 17 in Cathedral City and 12 in Rancho Mirage.

SCE estimates power to be restored around 12 p.m. today.

Extreme heat in the desert caused a strain on the power grid Saturday night.

Power was back on for more than 1,000 Southern California Edison customers in Rancho Mirage and Cathedral City.

More than 200 people were still in the dark in those cities and in Palm Springs for much of the night.

In Rancho Mirage about 1,300 customers were without air conditioning. By 11 p.m. only about 85 customers were still waiting for power near Dinah Shore between Bob Hope and Da Vall.

In Cathedral City 109 customers lost power. SCE said power was expected to be restored by 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

In Palm Springs 22 customers were without power near north Indian Canyon and Highway 111. Crews estimated a restoration time of about 2 a.m.
