Rendezvous in Palm Springs finds silver lining in power outage

Thousands of people around the Coachella Valley are glad to finally have their power back on.

Last night, Southern California Edision worked to restore power to Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs.

One of those customers was the Rendezvous hotel in Palm Springs.

After losing power they were surprisingly able to turn a very hot situation into a fun time.

Guests spent the night partying in the pool and lounging on lawn chairs.

“Find the joy in it and just laugh because it really is comical that you’re like ‘of all days when we need air conditioning the most, we don’t have it,'” said professional actress Renee Marino.

Head innkeeper Robert Aikens said some guests left but many stayed to have fun.

He said he was pleased with how SCE handled the situation.

“Once they were here, absolutely. And I have to understand the call centers don’t know exactly what is going on. But the two guys that came were fantastic. They did their thing, everyone was watching and cheering them,” Aikens said.

Power was restored at two in the morning for the hotel and most of the other customers around the desert.

Only 30 remained in the dark this morning, but had their lights back on by noon.
