Grand Jury not taking action on Pougnet conflict of interest allegations

A News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 update on the the conflict of interest allegations involving Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet, and one of the city’s developers, Richard Meaney.

Tuesday our newsroom obtained a letter from the Riverside County Grand Jury’s office. It states the agency will not be taking action on a complaint filed against the mayor — because it can’t act on matters pending before *other* investigative agencies.

We know the fair political practices commission has an open investigation into Mayor Pougnet’s relationship with Meaney. The public integrity unit of the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office is also looking into the issue.

If you recall, the Mayor earned at least 200-thousand dollars working as a consultant for Meaney from 2013 to April of this year.

We’ll bring you any new developments on those investigations as soon as we get them.
