Riverside County Grand Jury won’t take action on complaint filed against Palm Springs Mayor

There are new developments surrounding the conflict of interest allegations involving Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet, and prominent property developer Richard Meaney.

CBS Local 2 has obtained a letter from the Riverside County grand jury’s office, which indicates the agency will not be taking action on a complaint filed against the mayor, because the grand jury can’t act on matters pending before other investigative agencies.

The Fair Political Practices Commission has an open investigation into the mayor’s relationship with Meaney.

The Public Integrity Unit of the Riverside County District Attorney’s office is also looking into the issue.

The mayor was paid at least $200,000 working as a consultant for Richard Meaney from 2013 until April of 2015.
