Murder suspect arrested in connection to Coachella homicide

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday morning that an arrest has been made in connection to a homicide in Coachella where the victim’s body was found in a burning vehicle on August 14.

Deputies said 27-year-old Andrew John Muir of Indio was arrested Tuesday after authorities served four search warrants in Indio and another in Coachella. Muir was arrested in the 46200 block of Calhoun Street in Indio on suspicion of murdering 38-year-old Jason Cupit.

The investigation has been ongoing for nearly a month after Cupit’s body was was found in the burning vehicle in the area of Vista Del Norte, 1.5 miles east of Dillon Road. Authorities were called to the vehicle fire around 4 a.m. that day and discovered his body after dousing the flames.
