Threats lead to 11 San Diego area schools going on lock down

Officials say 11 San Diego area high schools received threats, prompting authorities to lock down the facilities and search the grounds before deeming the campuses safe.

San Diego Unified School District spokeswoman Linda Zintz said the schools were locked down for four hours Thursday. All of the high schools were in the San Diego Unified School District except one, San Ysidro High School, which is belongs to the Sweetwater Union High School District.

Zintz says the threats called in to the schools ranged from a school shooting being planned to a bomb being planted on campus. She says school police, along with San Diego police and the FBI, are investigating. The incidents are believed to be related.

Zintz says last year four schools received threats simultaneously.
